Jose de la Rosa Jr.
MMA Instructor, Hammer XFit Instructor
After high school basketball season ended, Jose de la Rosa Jr. started to look for something more competitive – luckily, Jose found Team Hammer. For 4 years and counting, Jose has continuously dedicated himself to becoming a well-rounded Mixed Martial Artist – and his efforts extend beyond having one of the best double-leg takedowns in the academy.
Jose assumed the role as head instructor for Hammer Training & Fitness’s Youth MMA Program. Each day, Jose develops lesson plans to challenge his kids both physically and mentally. Couple that with encouragement, praise, and achievable goals – well, it’s easy to see why Jose’s young athletes enjoy the Youth MMA Program. The kids hit pads, do partner work, toss around grappling dummies, and become friends. “Sometimes I let the kids watch some of the adults spar and it’s always funny when they ask me to teach them all of the ‘cool’ techniques.”
When asked what the best part of teaching youth MMA is, Jose says “the kids have really different personalities. Some of my kids are shy and some are really extroverted. But after a few classes they start to become more confident and then their personalities come through.” Jose, once being more on the shy side himself, has experienced the same benefits from the Adult MMA Program.
While he prefers Jiu-Jitsu and is active in the tournament circuit, Jose has competed in several MMA and K1-Rules Kickboxing bouts. You can always find Jose training or teaching at Hammer Training & Fitness. He is always willing to spar or roll, answer questions, or show you a new technique.
In 2014, Jose started teaching Hammer XFit – a new cross training class developed by owner Rodney S Guignet.
Jose is studying to become a Physical Therapist Assistant at Lehigh Carbon Community College.
